Blue Water
… in Catalan, Aigua Blava takes its name from the azure color of the sea in this exquisite little bay on the Costa Brava. Along with the neighboring villages of Begur, Tamariu, Calella and Llafranc, it forms one of the most charming and exclusive stretches of the Mediterranean coast. Pine-topped cliffs are indented with quiet coves where small sandy beaches fringe crystal clear water. Colorful local fishing boats mix with small sailing and motor craft in tiny harbors and anchorages.
The area has opened slowly and gracefully to tourism, avoiding large numbers of visitors. Private villas in the surrounding hillsides have treated the landscape with respect and a concern to protect the environment. Aigua Blava is home to just one much-loved parador, a small hotel and a handful of seafood restaurants. Access to the public is limited by the very restricted number of parking spaces, and even on the most popular mid-summer days, the bay retains its charm. For villa guests, a secluded personal swimming spot is provided by private access to the little Malaret Beach.
If the beauty of the setting, watersports and simple relaxation are overcome by the urge to explore, picturesque villages are accessible on foot along the coastal paths and the hilltop town of Begur with its medieval castle and narrow shopping streets is just a few minutes away by car.
Getting there
The villa is just 45 minutes from Girona airport by car or taxi, or a 2 hour drive from Barcelona. There is private gated parking for two cars at the villa.
